Dagestani MP Magomed Magomedov sentenced to 16 years
The Supreme Court of Dagestan has passed a verdict against the organized criminal community, the creation of which was incriminated to Magomed Magomedov, a Deputy of the National Assembly of Dagestan. He was sentenced to 16 years in a high-security colony, and his accomplices – Magomed Gadjiev and Sirazhudin Abakarov – to 6.5 and 6 years, respectively.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Magomedov was detained on June 27, 2013. On the same day, the Dagestani MPs voted for depriving him of his parliamentary powers. According to investigators, Magomedov, Abakarov and Gadjiev are guilty of committing a series of crimes, including organization of a criminal community. Magomedov is also charged with extortion, robbery, money laundering, a fraud and a forgery or destruction of the vehicle identification number plate.
According to investigators, the members of the above criminal community, set up by the former MP, were robbing the clients of the "Vitas Bank". Also, according to the ICRF, the ex-MP, acting with his brother Ruslan Magomedov and Sirazhudin Abakarov, tried to extort over 24 million roubles from a local entrepreneur.
Magomed Magomedov was also accused of organizing disorders on March 20, 2013, during a special operation in the outskirt of Makhachkala – the settlement of Semender, where relatives of Magomedkhabib Magomedaliev, the chairman of the Untsukul District Assembly, whose house was blocked by power agents, came out to a protest action. During armed clashes Magomedaliev was killed.
