Shushiya residents stop their hunger strike

Today, in Dagestan, participants of the hunger strike in the village of Shushiya of the Novolak District have stopped their action, which lasted 22 days.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the protesters demand to return to the village 16.7 hectares of land in the form of shares, including 9 hectares of land leased out by Agricultural Production Cooperative (APC) "Almaz". The protest action takes place intermittently since December 23, 2014it was resumed on March 16.

Starting from March 20, seven persons continued their hunger strike. On March 31, one of the protestors stopped hunger-striking for health reasons, and she was replaced by her brother.

"All of us are exhausted, and older women feel extremely bad. We fear for their lives, and we decided to stop the hunger strike. We have achieved no results, and the authorities did not react to our protest. So, it makes no sense to continue it," said Gusein Djakhparov, one of the hunger strikers.

The man has found that difficult to report on further actions of the hunger-strikers.

At present, the Khasavyurt Inter-District Investigating Division checks the legality of the distribution of land plots in the village of Shushiya.
