In Dagestan, head of Novolak District calls on to stop hunger strike in Shushiya village

In the village Shushiya, participants of the hunger strike demanding to return them the land plots were phoned by the head of the Novolak District and urged them to stop their protest action. Besides, the hunger-strikers were also visited by a member of the National Council of the Lak People.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the protesters demand to return to the village 16.7 hectares of land in the form of shares, including 9 hectares of land leased out by Agricultural Production Cooperative (APC) "Almaz". The protest action takes place intermittently since December 23, 2014. In particular, on March 4, the hunger strike was suspended; however, it was resumed on March 16.

According to Elmira Bagirchaeva, a participant of the protest action, Gadji Aidiev, the head of the Novolak District, has promised them that the problem of local residents will be solved. Elmira Bagirchaeva has also added that the protesters intend to continue their hunger strike until at least March 28, when All-Dagestani rally is to be held in Makhachkala.

Elmira Bagirchaeva has also noted that the state of the hunger-strikers gets worse.

The rally, in which the hunger-strikers are going to take part, is organized by the Dagestani regional public movement "For Justice and Unity". This was reported by Nurmagomed Gazimagomedov, the leader of the movement and the organizer of the rally.

"The rally will be held under the slogans of support of the Vladimir Putin's policy, against the violation of constitutional rights of citizens, against corruption, cronyism, and growth of prices. The declared number of participants is more than 750 people," Nurmagomed Gazimagomedov has said.
