In Grozny, case of "honour killing" brought to court

A resident of the Chechen capital is suspected of killing his daughter. According to investigators, he strangled the young woman, when he suspected her of immoral behaviour.

The young woman was killed in the autumn of 2013. The charge of murder was brought against her father, a resident of the Staropromyslovskiy District of Grozny. This was told to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent by an official from the Chechen Prosecutor's Office.

According to the official, the investigators have found out that on November 24, 2013, during a quarrel with his daughter, the man strangled her with a rope. "The father suspected his daughter of immoral behaviour, and that suspicion caused a quarrel. After that, the man strangled the young woman with a rope and then hid the body of his dead daughter and covered it with garbage."

In September 2014, the man came to the police and confessed to the crime he had committed.

"At present, the court is to determine the extent of his guilt and impose a sentence. The respective article of the Criminal Code provides for the killer up to 15 years of imprisonment," the official has explained.
