MECA takes responsibility for hacking Georgian "Carrefour" website

The Middle East Cyber Army (MECA) has claimed the responsibility for hacking the website of the network "Carrefour" in Georgia. The very fact that the website has been hacked indicates that radical Islamists successfully run a "cyber jihad" around the world. This opinion has been expressed by Evgeny Satanovsky, the President of the Middle East Institute, and Mamuka Areshidze, the Director of the Centre for Caucasian Studies.

On January 11, the website of the French retail network "Carrefour" in Georgia was hacked, and attackers left on its web page a message ending with a curse against the French satirical weekly magazine "Charlie Hebdo".

Hackers from the MECA have claimed the responsibility for hacking the website. In Russia, the MECA, unlike the ISIL is not recognized as extremist organization.

According to the archive of damaged resources of Zone-H, as at 6:00 p.m. Moscow time of January 14, the MECA hacked 1250 websites of municipal and public institutions and religious and commercial organizations. The hackers left a photo of the Koran of hacked web pages.

The murder of the journalists of the "Charlie Hebdo" and the reaction of the Georgian community to it "can cause unrest among Georgian Muslims," believes Mamuka Areshidze, a political analyst, the Director of the Centre for Caucasian Studies. In particular, the expert has notes that the confrontation among Salafi, Hanafi, and Shia may intensify.
