Journalist Khadija Ismayilova detained in Azerbaijan

On Friday, the well-known journalist Khadija Ismayilova was detained in Azerbaijan, said her advocate Elton Guliev.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on October 12 the General Prosecutor's Office (GPO) of Azerbaijan imposed a ban on Khadija's leaving the country; and she could not depart from Baku to Prague to the international conference "Forum 2000". On the following day, the GPO explained the temporary restriction of the journalist's travel by investigation of some criminal case, in which she is a witness.

Today, Ismayilova was summoned to the Baku City Prosecutor's Office; and after interrogation there, she was taken to the Sabail District Court of Baku.

Ismayilova was questioned under the case of a citizen Tural Mustafaev, who undertook a suicide attempt two months ago, the Azerbaijani Service of Radio Liberty reports.

Let us note here that now the court considered the claim against Ismayilova, lodged by a former member of the so-called "Classic" Popular Front Elman Gasanov, also known as Elman Turkoglu. He claims that the journalist had slandered him by making public the material about his collaboration with secret services in order to undermine the opposition from within.
