Fifteen years after terror act in Armenian Parliament, issue of its organizers is still open

Today, Yerevan has hosted a commemoration action of the victims of the terror act committed on October 27, 1999, in the National Assembly of Armenia. Despite the fact that seven people had been convicted for the terror act, the issue about its organizers is still open.

On October 27, 1999, a group of armed men broke into the Sitting Hall of the National Assembly of Armenia and opened fire on the MPs and members of the government, killing the then Prime Minister Vazgen Sarkisyan, the Chairman of the National Assembly Karen Demirchyan and six other officials. Seven persons were injured; and more than 40 people were taken hostage.

On the following morning, the attackers received security guarantees and surrendered, saying that their main goal was to kill Vazgen Sarkisyan.

Today, a memory action of victims of the terror act took place with participation of victims' relatives. They laid flowers at the monument erected in honour of the victims, the "Panorama.am" writes.

In the course of the action, Galust Sahakyan, the current Chairman of the National Assembly of Armenia, stressed that the organizers of the attack are still unpunished, and their names will be known only when the country's "economic growth" is ensured, the "News.am" reports.
