Volgograd mothers of large families demand meeting Governor for second week

Starting from September 30, in Volgograd, mothers of large families keep standing in front of the building of the government of the Volgograd Region and demand a meeting with the Governor. Officials from the regional government have stated that they do their best to solve problems of mothers of large families and note that the meeting of the protesters with officials of the regional government is scheduled for October 13.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that this February, parents with many children and parents of children with disabilities held a hunger strike at the building of the former Regional Committee of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation (CPRF). The hunger-strikers demanded to solve their housing problems and to increase the amount of aid and social assistance to families with many children and children with disabilities. On March 13, the hunger-strikers stopped their protest action and announced the creation of a public organization to protect rights of large families.

According to Olga Stepanova, a mother of five children awarded with honorary title of "Maternal Glory of Volgograd", a participant of the February hunger strike, the meeting of the protesters with the government officials is scheduled for October 13.

Olga Stepanova has stated that wants to meet the Governor, since she intends to ensure the assistance to children, who are brought up in families with five or more schoolchildren.

According to the woman, the second problem is related to the fact that families with healthy children d not benefit from municipal and federal programmes.

Sergey Krotov, the head of the Department for Domestic Policy of the administration of the Governor and the Government of the Volgograd Region, has reported that he makes efforts to solve problems of local mothers.
