In Kobuleti, locals protest against opening medrese

In the Adzhar city of Kobuleti, Georgia, local residents hold a protest action in front of the building, where they plan to open a medrese. Some of the protesters stay there day and night.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on September 10, a pig's head was attached to the building, where a citizen of Turkey is planning to open a medrese – in this way locals protested against the opening of a Muslim establishment.

Currently, residents of Kobuleti have cordoned the building with wooden barricades and stay on duty there in the 24-hour mode, demanding to declare Orthodoxy as the state religion.

"We demand to amend the legislation and declare Orthodoxy to be the state religion; then, we'll have more rights," said Etery Tsetskhladze, one of the protesters as quoted by the "Georgia-Online" Agency.

Yesterday, on September 16, the issue of the medrese in Kobuleti was to be discussed at the meeting of Adzharian Muslims and Christians with the Prime Minister of the Republic Archil Khabadze, but the meeting did not take place.
