MfE: earthquake in Chechnya hit nobody and caused no destructions

The Ministry for Emergencies (MfE) of the Chechen Republic has reported that the earthquake that struck the territory of the republic in the afternoon on June 2 had no consequences. Local residents report about some cracks that appeared in foundations and walls of some houses.

The earthquake occurred in Chechnya at midday on June 2. According to the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre, its epicentre was at the depth of 2 km, 28 km off Grozny and 6 km away from the village of Kalinovskaya, Naur District of Chechnya. Residents of Grozny also felt some shock.

According to experts of the Obninsk Seismic Station, the earthquake magnitude was 4.8 points.

The MfE of Chechnya has emphasized that it is impossible to predict an earthquake. Meanwhile, some locals say that they spent an anxious night waiting for new shocks, and report about some problems after the earthquake.

Let us note here that the strongest earthquake in recent years occurred in Chechnya on October 11, 2008. Thirteen people were lost; and more than 100 were injured; several thousand homes and buildings were destroyed or severely damaged.
