South-Ossetian authorities release citizen of Georgia detained on July 8

The citizen of Georgia, who was detained by Russian border guards on July 8 for illegally crossing the border, has been set free in South Ossetia. He was fined by 9000 roubles and handed over to the Georgian party. Russian border guards detain Georgian citizens outside the territory they control, an activist of the NGO named "Future Tskhinvali" told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on July 8 Russian border guards, who are controlling the Georgian-South-Ossetian border, detained Zurab Salamashvili, a Georgian citizen and a resident of the village of Sakorintlo, Kaspas District, on suspicion of illegally crossing the above border.

According to Zurab's relatives, he was detained in the territory, which is controlled by official authorities of Georgia, since the territory controlled by Russian border guards is fenced off with barbed wire, which cannot be overcome, the "Interpressnews" reports.

Let us remind you that on June 22 in South Ossetia, Rostom Sosiashvili, a Georgian citizen, was released; he was detained by Russian border guards near the village of Ditsi, Gori District, on May 29. Sosiashvili was released as a result of negotiations held at the 35th meeting within the Mechanism for the Prevention of Incidents and Responding to Them.
