Convicts from Caucasus state infringement of their religious rights in colony in Amur Region
The convicted natives of Northern Caucasus, who are serving their sentences at the correction facility IK-2, located in the Amur Region, complain that the colony administration does not allow the colony inmates to execute their Muslim religious ceremonies. The UFSIN (Department of the Russian Penitentiary Service) for the Amur Region, as well as the office of the Ombudsman, said they had no information about the situation in the IK-2.
The convicted Muslims are subjected to pressure from the administration of Colony No. 2 of the Amur Region, located in the village of Vozzhaevka, a relative of one of the convicted natives of Dagestan, who asked not to disclose his name, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
"Convicts are not allowed to pray. During the prayer, colony employees burst into cells and demand to stop praying, although it is not desirable for religious reasons. If a person does not obey, he may be simply beaten up or placed into the dungeon," said the convict's relative.
According to his story, in the near future he and other relatives intend to apply to the Ombudsman of the Amur Region, as well as other organizations involved in defending prisoners' rights.
