Chechnya: female journalists of STRC "Grozny" report about introduction of Islamic dress code

The female staff of the State TV and Radio Company (STRC) "Grozny" is obliged to go to work in hijabs, say the employees.

According to one of them, all had been warned that if on February 1 women appeared without hijabs, they would be sacked.

"And without it, all the announcers of the TV shall wear big scarves and loose clothes. Hijabs are not our national dress," an employee of the broadcasting company told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

According to her story, the order to introduce the new dress code for female journalists of the STRC "Grozny" was downloaded from the republic's leadership.

A senior manager of the broadcasting company has denied the introduction of the dress code. "There were and there are no written or oral orders to this effect," he stated to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

"We have certain rules for employees. Women should wear headscarves and clothes below the knee. On Fridays men should wear long shirts and loose trousers, because on that day every Muslim believer must make a collective prayer in the mosque," said the source from the STRC.
