Russian universities allocate 92 seats for students from Georgia

The Ministry of Education and Sciences of the Russian Federation has allocated – with the aim to support compatriots from Georgia – a total of 92 scholarships for admission of students in the 2013-2014 academic year, Valery Svarchuk, the president of the Union of Russian Compatriots in Georgia "Fatherland", has reported.

"Our programme exists for about twenty years. The Russian Federation invites, through the funds from its budget, students from different countries, including Georgia, to its universities," said Valery Svarchuk at a briefing on May 15.

In his opinion, this is a demanded programme. "Young people will have the opportunity to see Russia and show themselves. Students from Georgia are warmly treated; and we'd like all the students then to return to their homeland as professionals. I can state that about 50 percent of graduates then go back to Georgia," said Svarchuk.

Dmitry Kvirkveliya is going to use this programme for the second time. "After graduation from the Tbilisi State University, I used the programme to go to Saint Petersburg to receive my post-graduate education as a clinical intern. Now I'm going to go into sciences and become a post-graduate student. But then I want to go back and work in Georgia."
