Azerbaijan commemorates journalist Elmar Guseinov

Today, Baku hosted actions in memory of journalist Elmar Guseinov who was assassinated eight years ago.

The Editor-in-Chief of the "Monitor" magazine Elmar Guseinov was shot dead on March 2, 2005, at the door of his apartment. On the following day, the president of Azerbaijan publicly condemned the murder and promised to do everything to quickly solve it; however, it is still unsolved.

On the anniversary of the journalist's murder, representatives of the democratic public and journalists of Azerbaijan visited his tomb in the Yasamal Cemetery and laid flowers.

Then, a rally was held near the tomb, where speakers stated the absence in the government of any intention to find the customers and executors of the crime.

Sabir Guseinov, Elmar's father was present at the event; he noted that the strands of the crime run to the top authorities of Azerbaijan. "They wouldn't arrest themselves, would they? Sooner or later, Elmar's murder will be solved; but we need time," Mr Guseinov was sure.

In his turn, Arif Babaev, the head of the PR Centre of the Ministry of National Security (MNS), denied, speaking on the eve of the anniversary, the criticism of the inquiry into Guseinov's murder and recommended to wait for the results, the "Мediaforum.az" reports.
