Appeal of the Civil Movement for Democracy "Public Chamber" to the head on the executive power of Baku on intention to hold a nationwide rally on April 8, 2012

Esteemed Mr Abutalybov,

The "Public Chamber" plans – based on Article 49 of the Constitution of the Azerbaijani Republic and on the Law "On the Freedom of Assembly" – to hold a rally on April 8, 2012, at 4:00-6:00 p.m. in one of the following two locations:

  1. The square in front of the cinema "Narimanov" in the Narimanov District;
  2. The square in front of the cinema "Tabriz" in the Nizami District;

With the aim to express our attitude to the current political situation and under the slogans "New parliamentary elections!", "Freedom to Karabakh!", "Freedom to political prisoners!", "Ensure the freedom of assembly!" "Return our deposits one to one!", "Don't touch the property!" and "End to corruption and bribery!"

It is expected that the rally will be attended by 10,000 people.

Should the executive power of the city of Baku offer other places for the rally, it could be considered by the organizers.

We hereby ask to consider our appeal, and in accordance with the Law of the Azerbaijani Republic "On the Freedom of Assembly", to give an answer to the organizers not later than three days prior to the event.

  • In Volgograd, court recognizes absence of HIV therapy in prison hospital

    The Central District Court of Volgograd awarded prisoner Ruslan Mitrofan compensation in the amount of 1000 roubles, recognizing that the administration of a prison hospital in Volgograd violated the prisoner’s right to receive medical care by not providing him with an HIV medicine.
