Young writers from Armenia and Azerbaijan implement project to bring conflicting parties together

Within the framework of the programme carried out by the Eurasia Partnership Foundation (EPF) and under support of the UK government young writers from Armenia and Azerbaijan implement a project "Writers against Conflicts". Five Armenian and five Azerbaijani writers participate in the project. This was reported by Izabella Sargsyan, the manager of the programme of the Eurasia Partnership Foundation.

According to Izabella Sargsyan, the project is aimed at attempting to bring together young people from Armenia and Azerbaijan through new media and to enable them to cooperate. Furthermore, an electronic literary magazine, which publishes the works of the project participants, was established.

"The task has been executed to some extent, since these stories have found their lives on the Internet," says Izabella Sargsyan. She has also emphasized that the audience of the literary website can take a look at the information on the current problems of people living in two countries.

According to the writer Ambartsum Ambartsumyan, the literary life has no thematic and ideological constraints. However, the young writer has an internal agreement with his Azerbaijani counterparts that at the selection of stories the preference will be given to those works that reflect the social and psychological problems in both countries.

Ambartsum Ambartsumyan has already two stories: "That Night" and "Paper Flowers". "In particular, my stories reveal social and psychological problems that have arisen in the post-war period," stated the writer. He has added that the condition had been agreed in advance not to touch the theme of the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict, since there had been fears that the development of that topic could lead to serious stressful situations.
