Commemoration of Elmar Guseinov took place in Baku

On March 2, in the capital of Azerbaijan, independent journalists and leaders of political parties and NGOs paid tribute to Elmar Guseinov, the editor-in-chief of the magazine "Monitor".

On March 2, 2005, the journalist Elmar Guseinov was shot dead on the threshold of his own home.

On the anniversary of the murder, friends and colleagues of Elmar Guseinov lit candles went up the stairs to the third floor to the door of the Guseinovs' former apartment. Einullah Fatullaev, Mr Guseinov's colleague at the "Monitor" and a former political prisoner, said, addressing the audience, that journalists have done their duty by not allowing people to forget Elmar.

"He died for the freedom and prosperity of the Azerbaijani people; and we are sure that his sacrifice was not vain," the "Contact Online News" quotes Mr Fatullaev as saying.

The speakers expressed their concern that Guseinov's killer was not found, the APA writes.
