In Lermontov, hunger-striker of 75 hospitalized

Mikhail Markus, 75, one of the protesters against elections to the City Council of Lermontov, was taken to the intensive care unit after several days of hunger strike, a medic from the first aid city centre has reported today.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that today the health condition of Mr Markus has abruptly worsened; and doctors insisted on his hospitalization. However, he reconfirmed his intention to continue his participation in the protest, started in Lermontov on February 21. Among the main demands of the hunger-strikers are the cancellation of the elections to the City Council scheduled for March 4 and inquiry into the actions of the city CEC, which had refused to register 32 candidates out of 122 applicants.

"He (Mikhail Markus, - note of the "Caucasian Knot") is in the intensive care unit now; so far, we can't specify his diagnosis; doctors are examining him," the RIA "Novosti" quotes a first aid doctor.

The doctors, who came to pick him up, have recorded a sudden blood pressure jump (180 per 100) and a trend towards low sugar in blood. Mr Markus was placed into the intensive care unit of the medical centre No. 101 of Lermontov, according to the social-informational website of the city.
