Leader of Conservative Party detained in Georgia
Lasha Chkhartishvili, one of the leaders of the Conservative Party of Georgia, was detained by policemen in central Tbilisi, in the Kikvidze Park.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the authorities plan to cut 50 trees in the eastern part of the Kikvidze Park. Instead, the Georgia's Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) plans to build the Criminal Police office. In this regard, residents of Tbilisi protest against the works in the park. Ecological NGOs have already held protests in Tbilisi demanding to stop cutting trees and building a police office.
Lasha Chkhartishvili, one of the leaders of the Conservative Party, in protest personally interfered with the workers to uproot trees in the park, where the police intend to build their office. However, policemen took the politician from the territory of the park, put into a patrol car and drove away, the "Rustavi 2" reports.
Local residents and activists of different ecological organizations are still there; they are protesting against Lasha Chkhartishvili's detention and construction of the police building in the Kikvidze Park.
