Parliamentary elections in Armenia to take place on May 6
The elections to the National Assembly of Armenia of the fifth convocation will be held on May 6, 2012.
The respective decree was signed on February 23 by Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan.
The decree comes into force on the day following its publication, the "PanARMENIAN.Net" reports.
The IA "News-Armenia" adds that according to the outcomes of the previous parliamentary elections held in Armenia in May 2007, five parties entered the National Assembly.
Three of them – the Republican Party of Armenia, the "Prosperous Armenia" and the "Country of Rule of Law" – formed the ruling coalition. Also, two oppositional parties – the "Heritage" and "Dashnaktsutyun" – are presented in the current parliament.
The Republican Party of Armenia has a majority of seats in the parliament – 63 mandates, the "Prosperous Armenia" – 26 seats, and the "Country of Rule of Law" – 8 seats. The "Dashnaktsutyun" and the "Heritage" have 16 and 7 seats respectively, the RIA "Novosti" reports.
