About seven thousand people took part in an action “Entrance with a book” in Yerevan
An action “Entrance with a book” passed off in the capital of Armenia from February, 16, till February, 18. During these three days about seven thousand people took part in it and presented all kinds of books to the city. The books collected will be distributed among kindergartens, libraries and military units.
The action was held within the framework of jubilee celebrations devoted to the 500th anniversary of Armenian book printing, on the eve of the of Book Gift Day which is celebrated in Armenia on February, 19.
In honour of the Book Gift Day the authorities of Yerevan organized an extraordinary action: one could get tickets to museums and theaters only in exchange for books. There were so many people who wished to take part in the action that enormous queues lined up near the box-offices.
A whole class from school No 55 participated in the action in Yerevan all together exchanging books for tickets to the National Historical Museum. “I often visit this museum and this time I did something useful, too. I have already read this book and somebody has not. It is better to donate it than leave it collect dust on the shelf”, pupil of the ninth class of school No 55 Anna Simonyan said.
Tickets to the Drama Theatre were sold out already on the first day of the action and people were still coming. “We exchanged only 294 tickets, by the number of seats in the hall and there were much more of those who wished”, Interstate TV-Radio Company “Mir” quotes Ovanes Tagkezyan, Head of the company of the Drama Theatre named after Grach Khaplanyan.
An exhibition of Armenian manuscripts and books “Learn wisdom and advice: Armenian literary traditions in the Library of Congress” will also be organized within the framework of the celebrations in the Library of Congress of the USA. During five months the visitors of the library will be able to familiarize themselves with a lot of Armenian-Turkish books, “Novosti-Armenia” reports.
