An arachnologist: there is a risk of growth of the number of spiders dangerous for people in Volgograd region
According to arachnologist Alexander Khnykin, a rapid growth of population of karakurt spiders is possible in Volgograd region. Aid posts must be equipped with medications against aftermath of the bites and the authorities should organize training among the population, the scientist warns.
“People must know how to avoid contacts with the karakurt and what they should do in case of a bite”, Khnykin said.
According to Khnykin, growth of the karakurt population is registered in Volgograd since 2009. Earlier the karakurt was very rare in this zone.
“The karakurt develops places of habitation non-typical for it, such as the strand of the water storage and Volgo-Akhtubinskaya flood land”, our interlocutor explained.
According to the arachnologist, it is still early to state that the karakurt population consolidated its grip in Volgograd and the neighbourhood solidly but the scientist thinks that it may happen in the future and the residents should be ready for that.
Alexander Khnykin described the features of the karakurt’s habits which anyone who encounters it should know. The bite takes place in a situation dangerous for the spider itself, for instance when a person presses down against it accidentally or brushes against its clutch without taking a notice.
