Azerbaijani journalist receives Gerd Bucerius Award

The journalist from Azerbaijan Khadija Ismailova has become one of five winners of Award "The Free Press of Eastern Europe," named after Gerd Bucerius and awarded by the German Foundation "Zeit-Stiftung" and the Norwegian Foundation "Free Speech".

"Khadija Ismailova is one of the most serious journalists-researchers in Azerbaijan. In her various publications she speaks about corruption, abuse of power and violation of human rights in the country," said the official release of the "Zeit-Stiftung".

Ms Ismailova is a professional journalist for over 15 years. In recent years, she has run a talk show at the Azerbaijani service of Radio Liberty and is investigating the factor of corruption in high power echelons.

The awarding ceremony will be held in Hamburg on May 24, 2012.
