An action of additional fertilizing of the pelicans freezing in the Caspian sea passed off in Makhachkala
On February, 13, experts of the Ministry of Nature protection together with activists of non-governmental movements held an ecologic action on additional fertilizing of about 500 individuals of Dalmatian pelicans who had flown in a non-frozen area of the sea coast in Makhachkala.
Earlier, the "Caucasian Knot" reported that hundreds of birds in Dagestani area of the Caspian sea were under a threat of downfall because of anomalous frost. Elena Denisenko, representative of Dagestani department of "Memorial" human rights center, said that the subject of the greatest concern were red-listed pelicans of Russia. Residents of Makhachkala come to the coast in order to feed up the birds and in this way save them from death.
On February, 12, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment of Dagestan convened an emergency conference devoted to the birds freezing at the coast of the Caspian sea.
Upon the results of the conference, the participants arrived at a conclusion that the situation with wintering of the waterfowl can be estimated as meeting non-emergency characteristics.
At the same time, in connection with requests of individuals and representatives of non-commercial organizations it was decided to secure additional fertilizing of the waterfowl in cooperation with activists of non-governmental movements.
