Widow of local culture figure disappears in Sochi, neighbours assert

Tenants of No. 36 in Constitution Street of Sochi report disappearance of their 87-year old neighbour Antonina Maevskaya, the widow of the well-known cultural figure Iossif Maevskiy.

Mr Maevskiy was a teacher at the Sochi College of Arts. His former pupil Nina Imerlitskaya told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that she had seen Antonina Maevskaya about a month ago. After the New Year, in January, Imerlitskaya called her on the phone several times, but there was no answer.

"I immediately had the feeling of worry, as Maevskaya had always shared her plans with me; and she had planned no travels. I immediately notified the district police inspector Stanislav Kuznetsov at his office at No. 34 Vorovskogo Street," said Imerlitskaya.

On January 27, a post about the disappearance of a war veteran was appeared on the online reception of the head of the city; however, the city administration told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that they knew nothing about Ms Maevskaya's whereabouts.

Victor Biryuchenko, the head of the OVD (Interior Division), has also reported that he had no information about the woman's disappearance. He put down information about her and promised to clear out.

Neighbours say that after Maevskaya's disappearance, an unknown man appeared in her flat, who contacted nobody and gave no answer to the questions about the flat hostess.
