Attempt on Deputy Chair of National Council of Nogai Nation committed in Dagestan
In the evening on January 31 in Dagestan, an attempt on Zalimkhan Kocherov, Deputy Chief of the National Council of the Nogai Nation, was committed. This was told to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent by Fazil Cherkesov, a resident of the village of Terekli-Mekteb of the Nogai District. No one was wounded by the shelling.
"At 9:00 p.m., unidentified persons shot from a hunting rifle to the window of the Zalimkhan's house, when he and his wife and children were in one of the rooms. All windows were blacked out, the criminals did not know, where the family was, so no one was wounded," said Fazil Cherkesov.
He has also noted that Zalimkhan Kocherov is the leader of the local opposition. "At the initiative of Zalimkhan and other district residents, an assembly of the district citizens was appointed for February 3. Three issues were included into the agenda: measures to cancel the decision of the district assembly to hold elections to the local legislative assembly on party lists, the situation with subsidies allocated to the district for residents, keeping cattle, the reorganization of the authorities," he has emphasized.
With regarding to the last paragraph, the source has explained that in the Nogai District, some institutions are being closed one after another, and their powers are being transferred to other areas. "Recently, the military enlistment office was closed, and at present we belong to the Tarumovka District," he stated.
Zalimkhan Kocherov himself told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that he felt well and that he saw no motives for the attempt on him. He has added that during the shelling, no one was at home.
According to him, windows and curtains of the house are damaged. The aggrieved person believes the attack was probably a warning.
