Azerbaijani MFA: Foreign Relations Committee of Pakistani Senate recognizes Khodjaly events as genocide
Today, the meeting of the Foreign Relations Committee of the Senate of Pakistan unanimously adopted resolution to recognize the tragic events that occurred in 1992 in the town of Khodjaly in Nagorno-Karabakh as genocide. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) of Azerbaijan.
The resolution adopted by the Pakistani senators condemns "the occupation of Azerbaijani territories and the genocide committed by the Armenian armed forces on February 26, 1992, against the civilian population of the Azerbaijani town of Khodjaly."
The Committee reiterated the support of sovereignty and territorial integrity of Azerbaijan recognized by the international community, the message of the Azerbaijani MFA states.
"Pakistan will always be with Azerbaijan concerning the issue of the Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh conflict," the agency "Trend" quotes Khadji Gulam Ali, Senator of the Senate of Pakistan, the initiator of the resolution.
Elman Abdullaev, Spokesman of the Azerbaijani MFA, commenting on the resolution, called it one more step towards international recognition of the Khodjaly genocide. "Baku treats adoption of the document as particularly important on the eve of the 20th anniversary of the tragedy," he has emphasized.
