"United Abkhazia" nominates 11 candidates for MPs

The city of Sukhumi has hosted the congress of the pro-government party "United Abkhazia", where 11 candidates were nominated to run for the parliamentary elections.

In December 2011, President of Abkhazia Alexander Ankvab signed a decree appointing the election date to the National Assembly – the republic's parliament on March 10, 2012.

In accordance with the law on elections of parliamentarians, political parties may nominate one candidate in the constituency, but no more than in a third of all the constituencies, at their discretion. In total, there are 35 constituencies; thus, the "United Abkhazia" has nominated the maximum number of candidates for MPs.

In total, according to the CEC of Abkhazia, as on 27 January, 99 initiative groups to nominate candidates for the parliament were registered.

The CEC has also registered three nationwide political parties: the "United Abkhazia", "Forum of National Unity of Abkhazia", and the Communist Party of the Republic of Abkhazia.
