Adygea: deputy suspected of fraud amounting to 3.3 million roubles

A deputy of the Soviet of People's Deputies of the City of Maikop, the capital of Adygea, is suspected of a fraud amounting to 3.3 million roubles within the shared construction in the city, reports the Investigatory Department for Adygea of the ICRF.

Investigators have established that in 2005-2006 Lazar Afanasyev, a deputy of the above Soviet and Director of the LLC "Lazaros" concluded contracts of shared participation in construction of a nine-storey residential house in Maikop.

"However, he had no intention to fulfil his obligations after receiving shareholders' money. As a result, he caused damage to residents of Maikop amounting to 3.3 million roubles," the above Investigatory Department writes on its website.

The criminal case was initiated under the article of "large-scale fraud". Afanasyev may face up to 10 years of imprisonment.

"Earlier, inquiry bodies had repeatedly refused to open a criminal case; but these decisions were overturned by the prosecutor's office. At the demand of the public prosecutor of the republic two officials guilty of violations were brought to disciplinary responsibility," says the statement posted on the website of the Prosecutor's Office of the Republic of Adygea.
