Video meetings enacted in four penal institutions of Georgia

A system of video meetings started functioning in penal institution No 16 of Rustavi, Georgia. Earlier, the system of video meetings was introduced in penal institution No 11 for underage convicts as well as in colony No 15 of Ksan and colony No 2 of Kutaisi.

Earlier, the "Caucasian Knot" reported that the decision of enactment of video meetings was taken by the Parliament of Georgia after sanctioning the respective amendment to the Penal code. Special rooms were arranged in the penal institutions for video meetings and monitors were set for the convicts' family and friends in the National Probation Bureau.

Khatuna Kalmakhelidze, Minister of Execution of Sentences, Probation and Legal aid examined the start of functioning of the new system in Rustavi penal institution on January, 9.

According to the new regulations, the circle of persons having a permission of meetings became wider: now, beside relatives, the prisoners' friends will also be able to contact them, "Novosti Georgia" reports. Only persons who committed especially grave crimes and crime bosses will not have a right to use this advantage.

The video meeting lasts 15 minutes. This service will be available for the convicts three times a month. To have a video meeting a convict must submit the respective request to the Probation Bureau, "Georgia Online" reports.
