Georgia: participants of an action of protest demanded to stop deforestation
On November, 28, representatives of Georgian community came out in opposition against cutting down green plantations in the territory of the hippodrome in Tbilisi.
“Recreation zone in the territory of the hippodrome and fifty-year-old trees which are of great importance for the health of residents of the capital are being destroyed”, Lasha Chkhartishvili, Chairman of Conservative party of Georgia, says.
The action of protest passed off near Mayor’s office of Tbilisi. The participants of the action submitted a statement demanding to stop cutting down green plantations to the Administration of the city”, “Echo of the Caucasus” reports.
Lasha Chkhartishvili came to the action with a gas mask and declared that soon the whole population of Tbilisi will have to wear such masks because of air pollution.
Giorgy Korkashvili, Head of municipal Environment and Landscape gardening service, commented on the action. According to him, several dry trees were cut down in the territory of the hippodrome, at the same time up to 60 seedlings were planted, informational web-portal “Rus-press.ge” reports.
