Court sentences Chechen woman accused of selling her newborn babies to 3.5 years of imprisonment
Madina Nalieva, a resident of Chechnya, was sentenced to 3.5 years of imprisonment for selling two of her newborn babies. This was reported today by the Russian General Prosecutor's Office.
The "Caucasian Knot" reported that on May 31 at the central maternity clinic in Grozny police officers detained a woman, registered in Nadterechny District of Chechnya. The young mother tried to sell her two newborn babies - a boy and a girl of the age of nine days - for 200,000 roubles. Investigators played a role of "buyers", and the woman was detained at the time of the "deal".
"The investigators recorded on video the moment when the woman gave them her babies and received money. The young mother promised the buyers that she would never look for her children and never make any claims," the RIA "Novosti" quotes the General Prosecutor's statement.
"The detained woman claims that she was going to sell her babies solely because of their difficult financial situation. She is a single mother and has two more young children. The woman claims that she had no possibility to support both newborns and her older children, and that is why she had committed a crime," stated a law enforcement officer earlier.
