88-th anniversary of Armenian genocide in Ottoman Empire is celebrated in Erevan

Today the Armenians all over the world celebrate the 88-th anniversary of the Armenian genocide in 1915-1923 in the Ottoman Empire. Thousands of people of the republic make their way to the Tsitsirnakberd Hill in Erevan, the memorial in memory of victims of the Armenian genocide, to honour the memory of more than one and a half million Armenians killed in those years.

The Catholicos of all Armenians Garegin II performed a memorial service today in commemoration of victims of the Armenian genocide in the Ottoman Empire. The President of Armenia Robert Kocharyan, the Speaker of the Parliament Armen Hachatryan, the Prime Minister Andranik Markaryan, the Chairman of the Constitutional Court Gagik Arutyunyan, other statesmen and foreign diplomats were also presented at the ceremony that was held in the Tsitsirnakberd complex.

The actions in memory of victims of the Armenian genocide will be organized in many countries. So today the Armenian Genocide Memorial Day will take place in the Armenian Cultural and Educational Center in Boston (the USA). On April 24 the liturgy in memory of victims of the Armenian genocide in Ottoman Turkey will be recited at St. Lyudmila Catholic Church in Prague, as well as in the Czech town of Znoymo.

The Armenian genocide has been acknowledged by many countries, including Uruguay (the first country officially acknowledged the Armenian people genocide in 1965), Russia, France, Argentina, Greece, Cyprus, Sweden, the lower chamber of the Italian parliament, 31 state of the United States.
