Hundreds of thousands gathered in Baku to bid farewell to Geidar Aliyev

Hundreds of thousands of people gathered near the Respublika palace and in the neighboring districts of Baku to take part in the public farewell ceremony for ex-president of Azerbaijan Geidar Aliyev.

The ceremony began on Monday, December 15, at 9:00 local time.

Geidar Aliyev died at the age of 80 on Friday December 12 in the clinic in Cleveland, the U.S., where he had been receiving treatment for heart and kidney problems since August 6.

The ex-president will be buried in the Honorable Burials Alley, next to his wife, Zarifa Aliyeva.

  • Chechen advocate Timur Idalov requests clarification from court

    Lawyer Timur Idalov, sentenced for threatening a public prosecutor, appealed to the judge of the Khimki City Court, pointing out the violation of the norms of criminal procedure law in the decisions on his case. Because of the above-mentioned violations, as Timur Idalov claims, he was unlawfully left in a SIZO (pre-trial prison).
