In Dagestan, Afghan War veterans stop their protest action
Late at night on December 28 veterans of the Afghan War stopped their 9-day-long picket in Makhachkala.
The decision was made by all the participants of the picket after their conversation with Magomed Khadulaev, Chairman of the Dagestani Republic's Organization of the Russian Union of Afghan Veterans (DRO of the RUAV).
According to Shamil Khadulaev, chairman of the executive committee, all the 45 activists-picketers (including those who already held hunger strike on October 6-16, 2008) believe that the President of the republic Magomedsalam Magomedov will address their housing problem, using every opportunity, as soon as possible.
"Should these demands be ignored, the Afghanistan veterans reserve the right to hold a mass rally; they won't resort to any persuasions," Shamil Khadulaev has commented.
The demands and the list of 45 veterans of the Afghan War were handed over to Bekmurza Bekmurzaev, Minister for Nationalities Matters, Religions and Foreign Relations, for further delivery to the President of Dagestan. After that, at 10:30 p.m., the picketers pulled down their tent in the Park of Afghan Veterans and went home.
