Mass fight in Derbent had religious context, locals report

The mass brawl in Derbent could be caused by a conflict between the followers of the Salafi and Tariqa trends of Islam, said a local resident Magomed Khanmagomedov. So far, the local militia has refused to disclose any details of the incident.

Let us remind you that six persons were stabbed in an incident that occurred on December 28 in Derbent among city residents. Two were fighting against four.

"The fight was between adherents of the Salafi and Tariqa trends of Islam; during the conflict both parties used bladed weapons; now all the victims are in hospital," Magomed Khanmagomedov told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

The on duty unit of the OVD (Interior Division) of Derbent said that a criminal case was initiated on the fact of the mass brawl and the details were studied - no other comments were given.
