Agreement on extension of stay of Russian military base in Armenia sent to Constitutional Court

Currently, the agreement on extension of deployment of the Russian military base in Armenia, which was signed on August 20 during the visit of Russian President Dmitri Medvedev to Yerevan, is pending at the Constitutional Court of Armenia.

Ovanes Papikyan, press secretary of the Constitutional Court of Armenia, told journalists that Gagik Arutyunyan, Chairman of the Constitutional Court, had passed the document to one of the judges to study it for compliance with the Constitution of Armenia.

The date of the sitting of the Constitutional Court on this issue is unknown yet. Mr Papikyan did not rule out that the issue may be addressed in January 2011.
