Ecologists sue Armenian Ministry of Nature Protection
The Administrative Court of Armenia has accepted to consideration the suit lodged by a public association named "Ensuring Ecological Safety and Promotion of Democracy" against the Ministry of Nature Protection of Armenia.
The NGO believes the Ministry to be guilty of inaction, in particular, of a failure to prevent pollution of the Vokhchi River.
The suit is based on the data of the Monitoring Centre of Environmental Impact of the Ministry of Nature Protection, the "Armvodokanal" (local water supply and sewage administration) and the answer of the Ministry to the NGO's request, the "NEWS.am" writes.
"Should the State Environment Inspectorate of the Ministry have taken timely and adequate actions, the Vokhchi River had not turned into a sewer and polluted by industrial emissions," the "Armenia Today" quotes Arthur Gazaryan, a legal advisor of the NGO.
So far, the position of the Ministry of Nature Protection of Armenia on the moved lawsuit claims was not announced.
