Driver who knocked "Caucasian Knot" correspondent down to death is still at large
Arsen Abaikhanov, who knocked down, on July 25 in Karachay-Cherkessia, Bella Ksalova, a "Caucasian Knot" correspondent, who died as a result of injuries received in the road accident, and was sentenced on November 10 to 3.3 years of imprisonment in colony, is still at large.
"He filed a cassation," Bella's mother - Suliyat Ksalova - told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent, "where he asks to replace his colony sentence by the conditional one. He did it after he had publicly stated that no prison term is a sufficient punishment for a human life!"
Bella's mother has submitted her counter-cassation to the Prosecutor's Office of Karachay-Cherkessia with her objections against Abaikhanov's petition. On December 10, 2010, Judge I. Birbekov decided to reject the cassation of the convicted driver.
"Two weeks have passed, but Abaikhanov is still at large, not in colony," Bella Ksalova's mother has stressed.
The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent failed to get any comment from Arsen Abaikhanov. The call was answered by his brother Timur, who said that he knew nothing about Arsen's whereabouts.
According to Timur's version, Arsen has appealed against the verdict with the aim, in particular, "to bring benefits to Bella's parents in the form of part of his earnings," because "he wants once to win their pardon."
