Resident of Ingushetia sentenced to 23 years for kidnappings

The Supreme Court of North Ossetia has sentenced Ruslan Oligov, a resident of Ingushetia, accused of kidnapping two persons, to 10 years of imprisonment. By accumulation of charges, he will serve his term of 23 years.

The court has established that on October 10, 2001, the convict, acting as a member of a criminal grouping of 11 persons, kidnapped two local residents from the village of Nizhni Batako, Pravoberezhny District of North Ossetia.

It is reported that the members of the grouping extorted 35,000 US dollars from relatives of the kidnapped persons for their liberation. However, during negotiations the amount of ransom was reduced to 10,000 dollars; and on November 27, 2001, after the money was paid, the hostages were released. As stated by the Investigation Department of the ICPO for North Ossetia, the nine-year-old crime was solved in cooperation with the republic's MIA and FSB.

In total, Oligov will stay in prison for 23 years, as he had already been convicted for similar crimes. This was his fifth trial.
