Two residents of Karachay-Cherkessia convicted for attacking militiamen
They were found guilty by the republic's Supreme Court of attacking law enforcers and participation in illegal armed formations (IAFs) and received long prison terms.
"It was established that in September 2008 Eldar Uzdenov and Enver Azhgeldiev, acting along with their two accomplices, shot dead Militia Lieutenant Colonel Alibek Urakchiev, an officer of the Department for Combating Organised Crime of the Ministry of Interior of the Karachay-Circassian Republic," said the Russian General Prosecutor's Office.
According to the investigation, the convicts also attacked RPS (road-post service) inspectors. As a result, one of the inspectors received a medium-gravity wound; the second RPS inspector was seriously wounded; his forearm was amputated, the "Interfax" reports.
The court found it proved that Uzdenov had repeatedly helped IAF members. In his turn, Azhgeldiev provided militants with housing, food and means of communication, the "Vesti Northern Caucasus" reports.
