Abkhazia appoints local elections
On December 10, Abkhazian President Sergey Bagapsh signed a decree on appointing elections to local self-government bodies on Saturday, February 12, 2011.
Election commission of cities, districts, city districts, towns, settlements and villages shall be formed by local authorities not later than the tenth day after the appointment of the elections. Nomination of candidates for members of the assembly shall start 40 days and end 20 days before the elections, the "Apsnypress" reports.
The first elections to local authorities were held in Abkhazia in 1998, the second ones - in March 2001. The term of office of local assemblies, in accordance with the law, is four years.
