Opposition in Georgia is forming Committees of civil disobedience

On Wednesday, December, 8, a deliberative body of the Representative People's Assembly in Georgia held its first session where a decision of preparing large-scale actions of civil disobedience was taken.

The meeting passed off behind closed doors, leaders of a number of oppositional parties including representatives the "National Front" took part in it.

During the session Eka Beselia, lawyer, leader of NGO "Solidarity with illegally imprisoned" was elected Head of "Sakhalho Komafi" ("People's Intercessor") human rights organization. Actor Gia Burjanadze became leader of "People's Patrol", another human rights center. Both bodies will be fully staffed after special work teams develop the charters of these organizations.

During the session it was decided that Committees of civil disobedience would be created in Tbilisi the following week, then they would be formed all over Georgia. These bodies will have to prepare an action of universal disobedience which according the statement of Representative People's Assembly would result in a change of authority in the country, IA "Novosti-Georgia" reports.

Nino Burjanadze, ex-speaker of the Parliament, leader of the party "Democratic Movement - United Georgia" said that "the purpose of creation of Committees of civil disobedience was neutralization of fear" which in her opinion was present in Georgian community, IA "Rosbalt" reports.
