Sydoruk: this year, number of terror acts in Northern Caucasus doubled
Today, at the working meeting of law enforcement bodies in Vladikavkaz, Ivan Sydoruk, Deputy General Public Prosecutor of Russia, said that the number of terror acts committed this year in the North-Caucasian Federal District (NCFD), has increased by 100 percent as compared with the same last year's period.
"The number of terror acts committed in the NCFD went up by 100 percent and made 14 terror acts. The count of encroachments on lives of law enforcers and servicemen has also increased by 11 percent to make 529. As a result of such attacks, 218 persons were lost and 536 more were wounded," the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent quotes Mr Sydoruk as saying at the meeting.
According to the Deputy, this year more than 300 militants were liquidated, including 16 leaders of the armed underground movement; 298 militants and their helpers were arrested; and 58 terror acts were prevented. Moreover, 1665 firearms and large amounts of ammunition and explosives were withdrawn from illegal circulation.
