In Krasnodar Territory, inspectors found no extremism in HRC "Memorial" brochure

The Investigatory Committee at the Prosecutor's Office (ICPO) of the Russian Federation for the Krasnodar Territory has found no attributes of extremism in the brochure "Situation with Former USSR Citizens in Krasnodar Territory", published by the Human Rights Centre (HRC) "Memorial" and the Youth Group for Tolerance "ETnIKA", the "Caucasian Knot" was told at the press service of the ICPO.

Let us remind you that the check of the brochure became known on December 1, when Anastasia Denisova, head of the "ETnIKA" was summoned for questioning to the above Committee. From the materials of the case she learnt that earlier the publication had been checked for the presence of "signs of inciting hatred or enmity" (Article 282 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). However, on the results of linguistic examination initiation of a criminal case was rejected.

As specified by inspector Andrei Mozheiko, who interrogated Denisova, a criminal case was repeatedly rejected on December 2. He also noted that the brochure of the HRC "Memorial" was examined at the ICPO, not at the territorial FSB (Federal Security Bureau) division, as previously reported.

Ramil Akhmetgaliev, legal analyst of the Human Rights Association "AGORA", who represented Denisova in the court, said, in his turn, that the defence was unaware about the refusal to initiate criminal proceedings. "Yesterday I learnt from the media that allegedly they would not initiate a criminal case, but we were not told about it," he said.

Moreover, as he added, in the course of the interrogation the inspector told Denisova that "the case was very serious."
