Armenia hosts Film Festival "Woman"

The programme of the Seventh International Film Festival "Woman", held in Yerevan on December 1-5, includes 55 films from 18 countries.

"We received over 100 applications; of them, about 40 films were put on the contest programme; however, in total, 55 films will be screened," Mariam Oganyan, festival president, said before the opening ceremony.

She has noted that the aim of the festival is "to cover women's problems," opportunities for self-actualization of women-film-directors and latest trends in 'women's' cinematography.

The contest programme of the festival includes only films made by women-directors, while men's films are only on the guests' programme, the "PanArmenian" reports.

The festival will consist of five topical programmes: the contest one, retrospectives of the Russian film director and producer Saida Medvedeva and Latvian director Yuris Podnieks, international festival women's programme "Dortmund-Cologne" and the guests' programme.

The festival will define winners in three nominations: "Best Film", "Best Debut" and "Special Prize". The films, awarded with special promotion will receive diplomas, the "News-Armenia" reports.
