Medvedev: Kuschevskaya is an example of power-crime merge

Addressing today his message to the Russian Federal Assembly, President Dmitri Medvedev stated the need to fight laxity in law enforcement agencies and other bodies of state power. As an example he cited the events in the village of Kuschevskaya, Krasnodar Territory, where 12 persons were assassinated on November 5.

"Unfortunately, there were a number of tragic events, which caused deaths and murders of our citizens. Their reasons were, in particular, the laxity in law enforcement and other state bodies; they are often direct merged with criminals," said Medvedev.

Let us remind you that Mr Medvedev announced dismissal of Sergey Kucheruk, head of the GUVD (Chief Interior Department) of the Krasnodar Territory. Although the President did not name Kuschevskaya village, where the massacre occurred, he explained that Kucheruk's dismissal was associated with "one of criminal episodes."

Mr Medvedev also suggested that the FSB and other law enforcement agencies examine the activities of the authorities of the Krasnodar Territory.

"You shouldn't hide in offices, so that people were not afraid for their lives and lives of their relatives," said Medvedev.

The Federal Security Bureau (FSB) has already responded to President's words. Its Director Alexander Bortnikov said that the FSB had no plans of dismissing its agents in the Krasnodar Territory, the ITAR-TASS reports.
