Official Yerevan refuses from comments on WikiLeaks publications
The official Yerevan has refused to comment on the document on arms supplies to Iran by Armenia, made through bypassing the international sanctions; the document was posted on the WikiLeaks website. Experts, in their turn, believe that appearance of a large number of official diplomatic documents on WikiLeaks is a result of internal US squabbles.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on November 28 the website WikiLeaks unveiled more than 250,000 US diplomatic documents having various secrecy levels.
In particular, The Guardian, referring to WikiLeaks, published a letter sent on December 24, 2008, to Armenian leaders, in which US top officials threatened to impose sanctions, if the government of Armenia did not stop transportation of arms to Iran across its territory; it was asserted that those arms caused deaths of American soldiers in Iraq.
David Dzhamalyan, a military psychologist and a member of the Public Council under the Armenian Minister of Defence, has already denied this information. According to his story, "there was not a single case of Armenia's exporting arms and ammunition in violation of the sanctions introduced by the UN Security Council."
Armen Arzumanyan, press secretary of the President of Armenia, refused to comment to journalists "another country's internal confidential documents."
David Petrosyan, a political observer of the "Noyan Tapan" Information Agency, noted in his interview to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that the appearance of official documents on WikiLeaks was likely a consequence of some internal squabbles in the USA. A similar viewpoint was expressed by Stepan Grigoryan, head of the Analytical Centre for Globalization and Regional Development, in his interview to the correspondent.
The well-known political analyst Igor Muradyan noted, in his article placed by the Internet edition "Lragir", that "when the world community is experiencing an economic and political crisis, there's just proper time for global scandals." According to his version, the publication of documents is an attempt of a blow on Obama's administration. "Hardly, after clarification of certain circumstances, the US national interests will suffer any substantial harm," believes the analyst.
