Ecological action held in a rural area of North Ossetia

Starting from November 23, the city of Ardon, North Ossetia, hosts the action named "For My Clean City". It will last till April 23, 2011. The organizers of the action were the district department for education and the environmental council of the House of Children's Creativity.

The action has involved local schoolchildren, students of vocational school No. 15 and ecologists, explained Elena Taschilina, coordinator of the action. Young nature defenders were supported by employees of the department for education, teachers and specialists of the state ecological control.

"Schoolchildren handed out leaflets to local residents, containing appeals to keep their local city clean and properly cared. Also, leaflets were spread among motorists with a categorical ban to wash their cars in water bodies - cars should be kept in good technical condition in order to minimize emissions of harmful substances," said Taschilina.

Speaking about plans for the future, she told about plans to hold actions towards cleaning floodplain of the Ardon and Tagardona Rivers, running across the Ardon District, which has population of 28,000. Activists are going to express their position that when laying or repairing water supply networks only environmentally safe pipes should be used.
